You've just become a member of an exciting new affiliate program. They provide fantastic items, free referral websites, training, ready-to-copy commercials, and the best pay structure on the internet. This is the internet's best affiliate program! You're on your way to becoming the next internet millionaire if you put a few ads out there. Right?

Before you start building that enormous castle on the hill, there are a few blunders that many new affiliate marketers do that you should avoid.

1. Believing the hype

Yes, I'm referring to the excitement generated by your own program. Every program develops income estimates, but they're just that: forecasts. You have the ability to earn that much. Will you be able to do so during the first several months of the program? Most likely not. Consider this a long-term investment in your future rather than a quick means to get rich. Have faith in yourself and your capacity to achieve your goals. But don't be fooled by the marketing bluster.

2. Expecting instant results with little effort

Expect to put a lot of time and effort into your company. Expect to work on it on a daily basis. Wouldn't you anticipate having to go to work every day if you launched your own neighborhood store? You'd expect to have to market your store and attract customers. So, you've just launched your own online store; what will you do to make it successful? How would you entice folks to come to see your product?

3. Lack of a plan and specific goals

You've most likely heard the phrase "plan your work and work your plan." You'll need a detailed strategy and measurable objectives. Many people join affiliate marketing programs with the hope of making a lot of money. How much money do you have? How soon do you need it? (Be realistic; generating a million dollars in a month is not a realistic goal.) Okay, you've set a clear, defined goal for yourself. Now tell me how you're going to get there. Consider precise, explicit steps once more.

4. Advertising your affiliate link

How are you meant to get sales and downline members if you don't publicize your affiliate link? Create a webpage with a link to your affiliate program on it. Your affiliates will have access to the same website as you. You must be able to set yourself apart from the competition. You can achieve this by creating your own website.

You've been working on your affiliate program for at least two, three, and possibly four months with little to show for it. You're becoming disillusioned, and you're beginning to question if it's all worth it. Get up, dust yourself off, and figure out what you're supposed to be doing. Find out more. Continually pester your sponsor and upline members until they assist you. Don't give up. No one has ever succeeded by giving up. You won't either.
